A native of Charleston,
Ida became interested in Women Making a Difference when founder
Weesie Newton mentioned the giving circle concept at a benefit
gala. At the time, Ida served as a marketing and development
director in the nonprofit world and was accustomed to courting
donors for major gifts; however, as a 20-something, she was
not in the position to make her own substantial charitable
donations.
At the time of Women Making a Difference's inception,
the extent of my giving likely purchased a month of copy paper
for the charities I supported, and the constraints of my limited
philanthropy were isolating— I wanted to do more.
Weesie's plan
to bring women together to pool resources and make a collective
impact is genius. With this group, even a moderate donation
plays a vital role in leveraging a tremendous impact, and
members connect on a meaningful level: we're all committed
to helping in a way that is larger than our individual selves.
I take pride
in my ownership stake of the far-reaching initiatives my singular
membership donation helps subsidize; it is a tremendous feeling
to help spark ripples of hope and compassion!
